Tim Darcy, the charismatic and quippy frontman of post-punk darlings Ought is releasing his first album of solo material, early next year on Jagjaguwar. The record entitled Saturday Night features unused song ideas from Darcy years ago, and a few ideas that hatched during recording sessions for Ought’s latest record, Sun Coming Down.

The lead-off single and record opener “Tall Glass of Water” starts off as a rambunctious track with cool muddy chords (The Velvet Underground) before shifting into a suave-er mode of garage rock. Driven by existential quandary and fate, Darcy poses the question to listeners if they’d do the game of life all over again (“would you chance it all again”). With his sardonicism and profound poetics, Darcy is fueling his way to becoming a truly magnetizing songwriter.
