Just finishing up high school, The Goon Sax remind (or warn) us of the inevitable heartbreak during our youth. The Brisbane, Australia based trio are readying their debut via Chapter Music entitled Up The Anything, slated for early 2016.

The band formed in 2013 when members James Harrison and Louis Forster (son of Robert Forster of the Go-Betweens h/t Brooklyn Vegan) were workshopping song ideas in Harrison’s bedroom. The two recorded and released demos here and there, garnering a bit of attention in Australia. Drummer, Riley Jones joined the next year after just a month of drumming lessons to round out the line-up. All three have parity in songwriting.

Shared over the summer, Sometimes Accidentally” is the first look at the record. Watermarked by the jangly nuances of 90’s twee pop, the song’s upbeat spring is juxtaposed by a tale of teenage heartache. Written and sung by Harrison, he tries to swat away unpleasant memories of a crush triggered during a walkabout, as he deposits a stream of wry self-ridicule. It’s poignant pop that equal parts endearing and melancholic.
