Tokyo-based four-piece (three if you go by their SoundCloud byline) TAWINGS released their debut in the form of a split single, “Listerine”/“Dad Cry”. The limber “Listerine” is post-punk at its most rudimentary. Stripped down but still divulging into labyrinthine rhythms, the minty fresh track skitters with acrobatic twang and tight percussion. A bristly guitar is waxed on to the rigid time signatures, sliding, and gliding where ever it pleases. Delivered in a terse and mathematical package, you’d think TAWINGS was signed to a label like Sister Polygon Records.
