San Francisco’s Plush released Pine, one of my favorite shoegaze records last year, which, was a mighty good year for shoegaze in my opinion. The band signed with Father/Daughter Records to release their new EP Please, due out next month with “Sheer Power” as the lead single.
In some ways the song is an elegy for dead relationships, Helm hauntingly laments “it only lasted a moment / I pray I find it again.” Gradually thriving from wispy and sultry to a heavy apex, “Sheer Power” is a song about relationship dynamics set by the power of sex (“I have the sheer power knowing that I’ll haunt you when I’m gone”).
I didn’t think this year’s output of shoegaze would come close to last year’s, buts already shaping up to be even better.
