Julian Powell is a busy man. Eight months into 2015, he’s already released two EPs and an album under his Motiongazer project, with more most likely on the way before the end of the year. The Nashville, Tennessee native also released music under his R&B project Life earlier this year. By in large, Powell has written and performed all of the music himself. Late in 2014, Powell shared the shoegaze-inspired “Bloom,” which is the debut of his “full band,” with another guitarist. Chord flare ups fill the track with tension that never dissolves, along with Powell’s angst riddled vocals, howling out “You’ve only got just one shot / to my heart.” While Powell has yet to explore the full-band aspect further, “Bloom” is a a promising look at what Powell has in store for his noisier side.
