UK Label Heavenly Recordings have always been solicitous and discerning when it comes to deciding who receives the privilege of sitting upon their eclectic artist roster. Katy J Pearson has been one of the fortunate few to join Heavenly Recordings’s elite ranks in recent years, with her adroitness and knack for engaging songwriting giving credence to the wit of the label which supports her.
Assisted by a watertight backing band, KJP’s soaring coo mingled with an impassioned, but somewhat, melancholy delivery is the main attraction upon her latest single “Hey You”. The song pushes forward Katy’s brand of country-via-pop aesthetic even further than her breakout single ‘Tonight’ ever did, but this time taking a more tender and considered route to help convey honestly the songs heartfelt message of compassion and reassurance.
Striking comparisons to Aldous Harding can be made, as Pearson’s vocal inflections and strong vibrato instantly put her in the “classic singer” category without any pangs of conscience. With “Hey You” now being the third single to come out of camp KJP, the consistency in execution and originality is certainly making her gracious steps towards much bigger things an easy journey, signalling that her inevitable ascent to the top of the alternative music pyramid will no doubt be a quick one.
