kat-edwards-strangerSongstress Kat Edwards is already a diamond that doesn’t need a whole lot of refining. The Hobart, Australia-based singer-songwriter recently lit up on Triple J Unearthed, with many describing her latest track as moving, emotional or even spine-tingling.

The affecting Stranger In My Room will either open old wounds or create momentary ones for listeners. Edwards’ smoky delivery is powerful and disarming, as she sifts through smoldering memories and uncertainty. Her voice is tender and wistful, yet possess the weight and forcefulness that a Sharon van Etten, an Angel Olsen, or even an Erika Wennerstrom (Heartless Bastards) can deliver. A synthesis of country and blues, the track is a heartfelt account of a faltering relationship (“there is a stranger in my room / and they look like just like you), with sorrowful slide guitar, pale organs, and coffeehouse strumming. Her voice alone is enough to dismantle moods, and based on her musical offerings thus far, there’s going to be a lot more songs to mess you up.
