Malcolm Hirsh makes music under his moniker Govier, his middle name. The former Atlantian now Oregonian, has followed up his excellent sophomore record with Metal Target, which is out on cassette via Z Tapes.

The title track is an engrossing narrative from two slices of Govier’s memory that’s recanted in atomic detail. In a waterfall of descriptive prose that harks to the style of Mark Kozelek, Govier recalls an early childhood memory with a visit to his grandfather’s during a trip to a chess tournament. Meticulously arpeggiated notes creates a kind of dreamy stasis as Govier ties a simple memory to another that is much more complex and tragic.
