Tucked away in Ridgewood, Queens is Freind, a four-piece whose name is constantly being corrected to ‘friend’ by my autocorrect. Much like their neighbors, Operator Music Band, waltzing synthesizers are the centerpiece of the tracks that make up their debut EP, Lemon.

“Bebop” off their EP, is a whimsical number with toy-like synthesizers that are similar to the “motorik” grooves of early Stereolab as a warm modulated synth duels with its twinkly counterpart. Along with the cheery vocals and playful wordplay, the track’s quirky electronics makes me want to rent a motorbike and scoot along the autobahn.
