When Atlantan garage rock tuffs The Balkans called it quits, frontman Frankie Broyles set his sights on haunting solo material, but soon landed the role of auxiliary guitarist with fellow hometown heroes, Deerhunter. His stint with the band only lasted for the recording of Monomania and the supporting tour, with a brand new 7’ single (via Lefse). Kicking around since 2012, “Color Set” takes up the B-Side while the lead single “Capturer” is designated as the A-Side. “Capturer” is a moon shot away from the Strokes-esque gnarly garage rock he crafted with The Balkans, with Broyles melding warm guitar-scapes, spooky vocals, and subtly glitched drum loops.
