Already on their fourth record, neo-psych savants Coke Weed are shifting away from their jammy ways.  Being a bit of a departure, the band injects pop into their repertoire for the upcoming Mary Weaver (via Beyond Beyond is Beyond). The springy lead single, “Dead Man Walking” is served up with light smatterings of reverb-y guitars that vaguely resembles that of David Bowie’s “Sound and Vision.” Nina Donghia’s placid vocals pierces through the groovy mix, as she pleads to someone “let me lose control / for just one night,” and whatever hijinks that’ll ensue. Early indications point to Mary Weaver being an upright nod to mid-70’s art rock.
