Weirdly, “Something Soon” was my gateway into the profound world of Will Toledo’s Car Seat Headrest a few years back. If you haven’t browsed his amazing catalog yet, leave this post and head to his Bandcamp now. Today he announced his signing with the record labels of all record labels, Matador Records, which leads us to say, “fucking finally.”

The bombastic lo-fi hummer, “Something Soon,” is part of a collection of old tracks, rearranged and re-recorded for a record titled Teens of Style. The new version of the track keeps the same engrossing lyrics (“heavy boots on my throat / I need something soon”), hummed synths, and Toledo’s all-out-belting vocals. Gone are the wobbly, organ-like synths, which are swapped for equally hard-hitting guitars, and still hits as hard as the original.

Never straying from his prolific self, another record, Teens of Denial is due out early 2016.
