Jordan C. Weinstock is the prolific songwriter based in New York City (formerly in St. Louis, Missouri) that is stock-piling on material. Currently leading a collective known as american poetry club, Weinstock released the group’s latest record, a little light of our own, a co-release between It Takes Time Records and Feels So Reel. Skirting on the edges of emo and twee pop, the collective recalls twangy origins of Built To Spill, paired with Weinstock’s earnest vocals.

As its title partially alludes, the intricately melancholic sad song 7, is a somber song. Fluttering guitar sways underneath Weinstock’s pensive lyrics:

turn out the lights
so i can hopefully
feel at home tonight
with you haunting me

With the right smidgen of emotions, Weinstock and company elicit those strange feelings from our formative years or the breakups that hurt the most. Never overreaching, sad song 7 is one of the brilliantly intimate cuts from a gem of record.
