Since crafting one of my personal favorites of 2016, Jahan Kumarasinhe aka Buddy Holliday (also temporarily dubbed Peaches From Georgia) is working on new material and recently slipping a new track onto his Bandcamp. His ace debut Victoria Street is an enticing listen with moody pop gems that feature a nice serving of melancholy on both ends of the spectrum, warranting the on-repeat tag.
The wordy “How To Survive Y2K, Get More Barrels and Make Friends Part 1” for his latest is a stark departure from the scintillating jams from his debut. Churning with dispirited emotions and lingering stings, the track languishes with bleating synths that pump in and out of focus. Kumarasinhe’s usually chipper voice is dampened by the downcast aura and terse lyrics laced with misty metaphors, still queuing up the feels as with his other songs. The track’s slow boil eventually seethes into a cacophonous closing, with multi-layered vocals, ringing cymbals, and clammy drones.
