Hump day was surprisingly bearable with a stacked line-up in Brooklyn last week at The Knitting Factory.

Strange Kids, which is really just a normal way of being for most of us, started off the night playing to a room with too much negative space, but a deserved amount of positive reception. The Connecticut quartet’s 40-minute set included both new and old tunes, which was up for much deliberation on stage. Previously unaware to the Strange Kids’ tunes, it was quickly obvious that these boys are as charming as they are talented. Strong bass lines and haunting vocals definitely put these guys on the map with their atmospheric-indie sound. With loads of recent shows, and an EP on the way (according to a good ol’ Facebook stalking sess), you’ll surely be hearing more of Strange Kids…weirdos.

Nashville’s Chromy Pony was up next, and they definitely proved that they were the best pony next to Lil’ Sebastian (RIP). Their slacker, southern rock sound was undeniable, and evident in the bobbing heads and tapping feet that quickly filled the room. With a sound bigger than the space, their set shed light onto past tracks and upcoming releases (hopefully sooner than later). The combination of powerful instrumentals and unique vocals with genius harmonies, made Chrome Pony’s set lively, unhinged, and raw. Their pure sound and raw talent is underrated, while their name is under-recognized (well, until they open up for Cage The Elephant on their UK tour). The south is hitting us with some serious talent, and Chrome Pony is no exception.
