Oakland, CA’s Marbled Eye recently unleashed their chaotic self-titled debut this past summer through Melters. Members of the band are affiliated with well-noted Bay Area bands like Meat Market, Useless Eaters, Unity and Golden Drugs. The band’s penchant for relenting yet agile punk rock is reminiscent of East-coast slack masters Parquet Courts or the offerings of post-punk royalty Gang of Four.
The blistering opener “Coated” is coursing with a heavy dosage of caffeine and angular acrobatics. A mixture of wiry arpeggios and exuberant rhythms, the track is strangled by tension and pace, catching a gasp of air until the very end.
