Eric Slick – “No”

eric-slick-noIt’s not uncommon for a band and its members to have side projects, but when it comes to Philadelphia-based bands, there are a lot of side projects. It could be the city’s nickname or its tight-knit music scene, every band seems to know each other and new projects come to fruition.

Members of Philly juggernaut Dr. Dog have a bevy of side projects, both current and past members. The band’s drummer, Eric Slick, is prepping his solo debut Palisades, which features members of his other side project, Lithuania. “No” is the first of two new songs that will be on the upcoming record.

The track is a slow waltz, brewing with lush minimalism and melty melodies. A simple love ballad, each verse starts with a “no”, one of the shortest words with even bigger connotations. With haunted vocals that feel weepy and vulnerable, Slick’s dampened demeanor is a far cry from the vitriol performances with Lithuania. Steeped in piney Americana, the moonlit track is the one you leave last for a mixtape or the one that clears out the dance floor for one last round of slow dancing.
