A lot of bands try to recreate Loveless, from the torrential guitar haze to the whispy and dreamy vocals, but none really sounded good while trying to. Enter fuzz-poppers, Kindling, a husband and wife duo from Easthampton, Massachusetts.
Opener, “Other Times”, starts you off with whirring guitars accompanied by the a la Belinda Butcher vocals by Gretchen Wilson. “A Return” is a slow churner, with vocals from Stephen Pierce, is strikingly similar to “Sometimes”, with heavy pounding guitars and whispering vocals that hits the feels and never leaves.
We waited nearly 20 years for new material from My Bloody Valentine, and who knows how long for the next, but with these guys, another 20 year wait doesn’t seem so bad.
